County Criminal Court Clearance Rate

Incoming Cases, Outgoing Cases, and Clearance Rates
Harris County Criminal Courts at Law
Clearance Rate measures the number of outgoing cases as a percentage of the number of incoming cases. If cases are not disposed in a timely manner, a backlog of cases will exist. Knowledge of clearance rates and analysis of clearance rate dynamics help courts identify caseflow patterns, as well as improvement opportunities that may exist. Issues affecting clearance rates vary widely. A few examples of these are crises such as the COVID19 pandemic and significant weather events, preparation on behalf of litigants, evidence delays, and the availability of jurors for trial. Clearance rates are reflective of many justice system interdependencies and issues that affect society as a whole.
