Judge Richard Vara Judge Vara is a life-long Houstonian, and he is HISD graduate. He attended Stephen F. Austin High School. He received his BBA from University of Houston Main Campus, and he attended South Texas College of Law. Judge Vara was first elected to this post in 1974. He was the youngest person to ever be elected as Justice of the Peace at that time. He has been re-elected since and has served now for thirty-six (36) years. He served as the Presiding Judge for the Justice of the Peace Courts of Harris County in 1991. Judge Vara is also the proud father of daughters, Ericka Gonzales, & Lenzy Chapa & son Anthony Vara. Judge Vara is single and resides in Precinct 6, Harris County. Judge Vara has been a sponsor of many innovative programs such as teen courts and literacy programs. He also mentors for various high schools and middle Schools and elementary schools. He has been a long time supporter of Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs. Judge Vara has served on the Board of Directors for the Mexican American Bar Association, the 5th Ward Redevelopment Corporation, the Cossaboom YMCA, the Boy Scouts of America, the Austin High School Alumni Association, and theHarris County Juvenile Board to name a few.
