BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Mark Douglas Atkinson is married to Vicki Richards Atkinson, with whom he has raised four sons. They are long-time members of West University United Methodist Church.

Judge Atkinson graduated with a B.A. in History from the University of Texas at Austin, and he earned his J.D. at South Texas College of Law.

Before being elected as presiding judge for Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 13, Judge Atkinson practiced law from 1980 through 1986, handling trials of Family, Civil and Criminal Law cases, as well as Criminal Appeals.

Judge Atkinson's family came to the Houston area in 1835. He is a sixth generation Texan.

Judge Atkinson's parents grew up in southeast Houston. They attended Deady Junior High, Milby High and Rice University. Dr. Gene Atkinson retired from The University of Houston as Associate Dean of the College of Education. Claudene Douglas Atkinson retired as Chair of the Humanities Department of the Houston Community College System.
